N.Y. Photo Curator Call for Entry: 'Natural Encounters' with curator Fran Forman
www.franforman.com

NOTE TO ENTRANTS FROM FORMAN:
Dear entrants,
I am honored to have the opportunity to review your images and awed by your talent and skill. Selecting a few ‘best of’ entries is always a daunting task. As juror, I try to strike a balance in composition, tone, and adherence to theme and message, as well as to curate an exhibit in which the images work together as a whole. I’m also touched that you saw, as I do, the timely and critical necessity of protecting our vulnerable planet and non-human neighbors.

Thank you for your submissions. I look forward to seeing more of your gorgeous work in the future!
Fran

THEME: Natural Encounters
Fran Forman says, "
We now know that 60% of primate species are threatened with extinction, as are hundreds of other species. In the the Arctic, large areas of permafrost are melting, and an ice swath the size of Delaware is separating in Antarctica. These are signposts for a hopeless future for our planet, and it’s our responsibility as artists to call attention to, and alter, this course.

Please submit images that address the connection and interdependence between humans and the natural world. The images may or may not be documentary. I’m looking for emotional impact as well as a strong composition. I encourage all photographic techniques, although the message is more paramount than the medium."

20% of artist fees go to charity. 10% to the curator's charity and 10% to the first place winner's charity.

The charitable fund Forman supports is the Animal Legal Defense Fund (www.aldf.org). Their mission is to protect the lives and advance the interests of animals through the legal system. ALDF accomplishes this mission by filing high-impact lawsuits to protect animals from harm, providing free legal assistance and training to prosecutors to assure that animal abusers are punished for their crimes, supporting tough animal protection legislation and fighting legislation harmful to animals, and providing resources and opportunities to law students and professionals to advance the emerging field of animal law.

First Place winner Donna Bassin's charity is Frontline Arts.
